On monday 31st may 1915 a German zepperlin LZ38 had dropped 90
incendiaries over Stepney and Leytonstone and killing seven people in the raid and injured thirthy-two, fifteen RNAS aircrarft from six airdromes went after the zepperlin.
One of these was a Avro 504B, number 1009 cought a glimpse of the zepperlin in the moonlight, but engine failure forced him to abandon the chace and crash landed off the point of Canvey, the piolt was unhurt but aircraft was a right off.

Once a zepperlin had dropped it bombs in 1915 it would climb to over 20,000 fleet and nothink could touch it.
It was not antill 1916 that anti-aircraft guns could fire that high and early 1917 that aircraft could and zepperlins fazed out but late 1917 and aircraft bombers took over on bombing raids. _________________ The sprit world is all around us. |
