Yesterday morning I went to midweek Mass at St Andrews church in Dover, whicd dates from the 13th Century.

It was a very contemplative service, about half an hour but to just stop and spend time in prayer and to receive Holy communion in the week is very nice (for me).

As I was leaving the church I purchased a church magazine and a tremendous noise shook the building, halfway between a thunderbolt hitting the church and an express train rushing through.

Everyone was confused and wondered what the commotion was about.

The stone cross on the top of the steeple outside of the church roof had literally fallen off, taking a few roof tiles with it.

We all ran out to survey the damage.  I said to the vicar, that it felt like something symbolic, a portent to which he agreed.

Most strange?  What can it all mean or was it simply the cross was weakened got blown down by the wind and rain?

It all had the touch of the Omen feel about it as the cross was complete and very other little damage had happened.

That really was strange, what did you feel it was a symbol of?

hi manda

I really don't know, maybe it symbolises some kind of change?

Sometimes strange things happen and are portents of change.

Whether there is a symbolic reason why a cross should fall of a church, I don't know.  Maybe more is to be revealed to us?

Maybe there is, everything happens for a reason, both good and bad things but we don't always know the reason until sometimes quite a long way after the event.
