Spontaneous Human CombustionSpontaneous Human Combustion
Spontaneous Human Combustion is still one of the paranormals biggest mysteries. While everyone is so preoccupied going after ghosts only the professionals are still concentrating on trying to work out this age old phenomenon. There have been several cases in recent history and it is even mentioned in the bible.
In the middle ages it was believed that everything, including humans was derived from four basic natural elements, Earth, Air Water and Fire. It was believed that if fire could be found in the human body, that it may be able to flare up and engulf the person.
No one can explain how the intense heat that comes from SHC can be generated by the body itself. When someone is cremated, they are left in an over known as a retort or a few hours, exposed to temperatures between twenty hundred and twenty six hundred degrees, and when they come out, still contain sizable bone fragments, these are then mechanically pounded down the dust or ash that comes to the grieving family in the urn afterwards.
So how can someone be disintegrated to literally Ash and dust in as little as twenty minutes, and still leave objects in close proximity completely untouched and undamaged?
These questions are still to be answered. There also seems to be a basic profile that seems to fit quite a few of the victims of this unexplainable death. The victim is often (I say often, not always though) an older woman, overweight, infirm and has an alcohol problem. This does fit the description or profile of a number of victims.
So, what could be the reason why these victims are more common? One thought was that the body fat could burn at a great temperature, and this has been proven under laboratory conditions to be a fact. But this is still not at great enough a temperature to cause the damage to the remains that is so often seen. Experienced fire fighters have seen burned bodies and from a normal house fire they are still recognisable as human remains. However, Remains left from SHC cases are far less easy to recognise. In some cases post mortems are needed to distinguish what the sex of the person was, and the face is so badly burned it is unrecognisable.
So let’s look at alcohol as a possible cause. It is well known that alcoholic spirits are flammable, but could a firs from such a fuel be so intense to burn a human body to such a state, well to put it bluntly no. Even a high amount of alcohol remaining in the blood stream or in the body would not cause such heat.
Another common link in the victims that I did not mention about is that some have suffered from a severe form of depression and in some cases even been suicidal. This lead me to ask the question, “Could the body have a self destruct system that inflames the body as a form of self induced suicide?” there are still a lot of things yet to be understood about the human body and brain. If this was a possibility, then how would the body or brain bring this even about? One possibility is that it could release a cocktail of chemicals within the body that ignite on contact with each other. This would explain the fire coming from within. Most SHC cases also show that the fire mostly originates from the torso area. So could this be where such a reaction takes place? No one knows.
The main problem facing investigators and paranormal investigators/parapsychologists is that the SHC victims are nearly always alone at the time. This means that there are very little eyewitnesses to interview and very little known about the victims state of mind immediately before the event takes place. Also since this event is so spontaneous and no one knows when one is going to occur, there is often very little chance of preventing this from happening to the poor person in question, and no chance to be able to study them more closely (not that I would like to witness such a thing).
So we are still left wondering and researching this strange and horrific event. The best for of learning is through debate, so if this should appear in an internet forum, please post up your ideas on the possible causes. I’m sure there are people out there that know an awful lot more about this than I do and I would love to hear your opinions. Until then, take care.

Its like any other paranormal subject in the sense that proving any one possiblity is so hard to do. There are so many otyher possibilities as well so it will take forever to find out what causes anything like this

It sure would, I have seen pictures of the after effects and they have been SOOOOOOOO wierd!!!!

I don't think SHC is paranormal.I think it has do with nature.

Soe of the victims were burned to ash in 20 minutes, but due to the lack of eyewitnesses no one can atually be certain if the victim was still alive when the fire starts. There is never any sign of a struggle. If I was on fire, I would be up and runnin around screamin in pain

Wonder why it seems to happen when there is nobody there to witness it ? I wouldn't want to personally but ......... At the same time i suppopse you wopuldn't be able to prevent the combustion continuing even if you threw water or somethimng over them

No, I don't think there is anything which can be done to stop it. I definately would not want to witness it!
