The spiritual journey
From the thousands of eyewitness statements gathered from people who claim to have had out of body experiences (OBEs), Near Death Experiences and who have seen Ghosts, it is possible to piece together the likely journey of the ethereal body to what ever comes next. The idea of this Bulletin is to look at this journey and evidence to support it, so lets get started.
The Out O Body Experience (OOBE)
This has been related many times by many different people. Many people, who explain these experiences, have never met each other, and some have never even heard of such experiences or are non-believers in them. Yet, so many of these stories sound the same, with only minor changes in detail from person to person as you would expect.
It starts off with the person in question lying in bed, either in hospital or at home. They can be asleep or awake at the time of the experience. They describe a floating or lifting sensation and that they are able to look down on their own body, while it is still in bed. This often frightens the experient, some of them say that they can move around freely, others say that they are back in their bodies in a matter of moments; others are simply to frightened to do anything.
When they suddenly re-enter their body, they awake suddenly and are often left quite frightened and unable to sleep.
I have heard many eye witness statements describing this almost down to the detail. All stories are notably similar. So if these people have never met or never heard of such experiences before they have had their own, how are these stories so similar? It would suggest that something actually does happen.
However, these experiences have been widely covered in the news media, in articles in newspapers and programmes on the Television.
So sceptics could say that these people have all seen the television or read about them. This is a factor and we cant blame the sceptics for saying that. Lets look at some more of the explanations available.
They could simply have been dreaming. Those who say they were awake could have dozed off without knowing it; I have done this myself many times. This explanation seems to be the most common out of the most. However; how would the person having this dream be able to see and hear everything in the room around them?
Many of these people can describe exact events and conversations between people in the room at the time. This is common when the person in question is in hospital, they can often relate back conversations between doctors and actions taken by them. These descriptions are down to the last detail and are more than often correct. Next we seem to progress onto the next stage.
Near Death Experience (NDE)
If the person doesnt come around from an Out of Body Experience, this seems to progress on to a near death experience. The person undergoing this experience often sees a long tunnel with a bright light at the end. They feel compelled to walk along this tunnel to the light. They also descried seeing family members or loved ones at the other end of the tunnel guiding them.
When they reach the end of the tunnel, one of two things may happen. They will either go into the light and cross over into the next stage along, or they will be turned away because it is not there time.
These people who are sent back, often say that this has been a life changing experience and their lives seem to improve. They also relate to parapsychologists what they saw and what happened during these experiences. That is the majority of the evidence we have. Unfortunately, this is not enough evidence, we need something that we can show to prove this happens (or prove it doesnt, depending on your opinion), and this evidence is not forth coming. So, if we dont come back, what happens next?
What happens next?
What happens next could be any number of things, and depends a lot on your own religious beliefs. You will either go to heaven, go into spirit and return as a ghost, or you will just be dead and thats the end of it. There is a lot of evidence to support Ghosts. I know this, as it is my specialised subject. I have seen a lot of phenomena on investigations, and heard a lot of very convincing information from Psychic Mediums to suggest that ghosts do exist. Again, we are faced with the problem of proving this. There isnt really any way to prove the existence of ghosts, simply because there are so many possible explanations for all the different kinds of phenomena.
Many people believe in God and heaven, and only the writings of the bible are any kind of evidence to support this. Lets face the fact that there is hardly any evidence to support the existence of heaven. However; dont write heaven off, there is no evidence to suggest that it DOESNT exist either.
Many people believe we come back into another body. This is called reincarnation. Many people who have had past life regressions believe that they have lived before, died and come back to be in their present body. There is a lot of evidence to support this theory also. These regression sessions bring about a lot of information; a lot of this can be traced through records. Some people get this information absolutely correct, and couldnt have possibly known about any of it. This is good evidence to support the theory. In some cases the person in question can go to where they used to live in this so called past life, and know the place as if they have lived there their whole life. Even if they have never been there at all.
Summary
So, to sum up. The journey in all starts at the OOBE stage, those who do not wake suddenly in their beds, find themselves confronted with a bright light at the end of a long tunnel. This is the Near Death Experience (NDE). When they get here, f they do not get sent home, they are to become spirit or just dead or reincarnated into another body.
No one can really know what happens when we die. This has just been a brief look at what might happen.
