Barnard Castle InvestigationUpcoming Investigation
Barnard Castle, County Durham
The town of Barnard Castle takes it name from the Fortress it is centred around. Built in the 12 Century By Bernard Belliol on land given too him by William Rufus, the castle was active all the way up to its most significant point in history. This came about in 1569 when Mary Queen of Scots Besieged the castle. The owner at the time George Bowes managed to hold the castle, but ended up having to surrender it due to lack of Provisions. He was granted safe passage from the castle on honourable terms by Mary Queen of Scots, with Arm, ammunition and Baggage. Mary Queen of Scots was later held until her execution at Tutbury Castle (also famously haunted by Mary Queen of Scots).
My concerns for the Investigation are as follows.
1. The terrain it sits on. The castle is situated at the top of a steep hill and cliff that leads down to the shallow river Tees. This could represent a danger of tripping or Falling Hazards, for this reason, a daytime recce of the area is advised.
2. The locals. There is slight possibility that the local youth may use this Castle ruin as a hangout, so interruption may be a problem
3. Weather. Again, due to the Castles position on top of the hill, it could get quite windy and being a ruin, it could also be cold. Warm clothing is advised.
The Ghost of Lady Ann Day is said to replay her death from the hill of the castle. She was tossed to her death into the River Tees. As yet I am unsure of any other reported phenomena at this location.
Equipment I am planning on taking includes the Usual EMF Meter, Temperature/Laser Thermometer, Digital Stills Camera, and Torch, spare batteries to fit all Equipment, and Baseline sheets and note pads on a clip board.
Possible Experiments to be carried out are very limited due to the location being an outside one. The usual Baseline tests will be carried out as standard.
Further Note
We are a long way from home for this one so a further visit to the castle could take some arranging. However, all going well this will not be my last visit to Barnard Castle. Also due to the distance, there will be NO medium on this investigation, so it’s up to us bog standard investigators for collection of phenomena and not historically or any other verifiable information.

Hi Manda
Unfortunately I couldn't get access to the castle. I did however find a really interesting place by the name of Eggleston Abbey. It is a massive ruin and there is lots of it still standing, easy access and some of the rooms are still almost in tact. It was a great place. Not much taht I know of happening up there, but reports of a ghostly monk being seen on the adjoining river bank and within the Abbey ruins, make this a place Im definately going back to in the summer.
