I am what others call a sceptic. This is not really true, as I think that agnostic would be a better description of my beliefs. Coming from a scientific background, I tend to demand truth and logical explanations of what I myself and others see. When a door closes of it's own accord, whilst others look for a paranormal explanation, I look at the way the door has been hung and for draughts etc. Every investigation of allegedly anomalous phenomena which I have been on has yielded a normal, physical reason. There have been one or two incidents which are beyond my reasoning and which may indeed have a paranormal origin. These have always involved my own personal safety.
It started in 1956 when I was a novice motor cyclist. I was riding down to Kirton-in-Lindsey to attend a gliding course every week end. The roads were not very good in those days. There was a shortage of white paint and motorcycles were six volt, so the lights were pretty dim. The road along which I drove had a very tight bend. It turned back upon itself before continuing in the original direction. This particular Sunday night, it was dark and I was giving the bike some stick and going as fast as possible. Suddenly, in front of me was the dreaded S bend. I was going much too fast to negotiate the bend, so I braked and closed my eyes. Nothing happened. I opened my eyes and found myself a couple of miles further down the road and beyond the bend.
In 1957 whilst working at Radford Colliery, I had the job of moving a lot of empty tubs from one end of the main haulage road to the other, where the loader was situated. The procedure was to fasten 5 tubs together and clip them to the haulage rope and send them away. After a few seconds, the next set would be sent away, until all of the tubs had gone. At the other end of the road, another man would unclip each set and send them under the loader. This day I was the only person on the job, so I fastened the lot together, put a clip on the front and sent them all away in one long raft. I walked in front of them so that I could unhook them at the other end. Because of the weight of the load, the clip which attached the tubs to the haulage rope had to be really hammered down. This was safe enough because there would be a length of metal pipe at the other end which would slip over the clip to give me more leverage.
When we all arrived at the other end, the pipe was missing and I was not strong enough to get the clip off. As I struggled with it, my foot became trapped between two lines of tubs; the stationary one under the loader and the moving ones I was struggling with. As I struggled to reach the wires to stop the haulage system, which was out of my reach, the clip came off by itself.
Moving on to the present time, I went to an investigation which was proving to be very hairy indeed. I cannot say where it was as it is still confidential. Suffice it to say that it was an extremely active site. The site was on two levels. The uper level had numerous spirits roaming around the place. There were manifestations, vibrations, music, the lot. At the lower level there was poltergeist activity, with items being thrown around the room and there were a number of different manifestations. There was also the sound of hobnailed boots marching around the place. Then I arrived on site. All activity stopped. Dead. Not a sausage. No poltergeist activity. No manifestations. Nothing.
There were three mediums on the team and they all said the same thing. The spirits were there, but they would not show themselves. One of the walkie-talkies went haywire and started scanning channels and couldn't be used, but that is all that happened.
I set my video camera and NID (which I remembered to earth) in the upstairs corridor, pointing towards the toilets. At the end of the corridor was a set of six small cupboards where the ladies who worked there left their hadbags etc., these were left open so that in the case of anyone breaking into the place they would not force the doors open. The only thing of note was that the NID went off everytime I passed it.
At the end of the investigation, I packed up my equipment and turned around to find that the doors on the set of cupboards were firmly shut and locked. Nobody had been near the cupboards at all that night.
This is the end of my rambling. The moral is, I may be very safe to travel with, but do not take me on any investigations or nothing will happen.

Great post TC, you will get on well with Dave, he is our scientific team member. It's good to have a scientific point of view when doing anything to do with the paranormal.
Your experiences are certainly interesting.
