Well what a fantastic night we had once Bev finally arrived LOL.  This is an amazing fort and has areas of strong activity.  We all picked up various individual connections and areas of strong feelings especially in the guard house area where the cells were.

Thanks everso much to Bev and Chris for sorting this out for BTM, will be well worth doing this again sometime in the future.

GHT and ISLE OF THE DEAD are going on the 30th Aug for a joint invo.

We are looking forward to this as we have not worked with this team before, but it looks like if we get along it could lead to some other future joint invo`s.

That would be good, it is an amazing place and was manned right up to the mid 1980's.  Lots of energy, lots of orbs but not as much actual activity as I expected.

my mate Chris and my self managed to get inside quite a few years ago and explored the main caponier, i remember the slate flooring had perished in a few places making it quite hazardous - but that was prior to the supposed restoration its been getting, which started and then just stopped.

it was around this time we also explored the tunnel network near the old water tanks, the demi-bastion and the other caponier at the citadel. As far as i know, the water tanks are completely off-limits now because the ladder you used to be able to get out with is no longer there, meaning you would be stuck!! plus the main chamber has flooded to nearly 12ft of water seeping in through the surrounding chalk. Also, the gaping hole in the floor that you could once cross is now to wide to jump, meaning that u would fall directly into the main tank - and that NEVER had an escape ladder even when in use!!

Do any of you know what the most recent status is of any of these locations??  will the redoubt open to the public again??

Also, have any of you visited the tiny ruins of the Templar church further up the hill from the redoubt...???

There is restoration works going on inside the fort still, most of the floors have been removed and there are piles of brickwork and stone in various places due to the ongoing work. The fort is open to the public for set open days, but not on a regular basis.

The water tanks I believe are closed up now, so don't think there is any access to them which by the sounds of it is a good thing!

I don't know about the areas around the fort, there are tunnels up on the hill, some of which are accessible but it means climbing over a wall into the tunnel with a little drop down.  They are pretty safe but the ends are blocked off.

I have read about the ruined templar church but not been there as yet.

It went exceptionally well!!!
There is certainly alot of activity inside the fort, and at one point we were in a room surrounded by at least 15 male spirits!!
The caponier with the intact gallery walk provided the most interest, and was a highlight of Chris`s visit because he actually saw something himself, which quite spooked him (no pun intended!)

Full details of the invo are yet to be posted on my website, but i will let you know when they are, im still going through the detailed info Chris wrote down, im hoping to check up on some names and dates we got.

I would certainly not rule out a future visit.

oh, Manda...  i met Kevin again that night, which was fantastic, hadn`t seen him since Pluckley!

Thats fantastic, I'm pleased it went well and will have a read of your findings.  Very strange that the fort never saw actual battle activity but still a great place to visit.

None of the UK`s 19th century forts saw action as most became obsolete before they were fully armed or even completed - hence their nickname "Palmerston`s Follies", named after the Prime Minister who put forward the bill in Parliament to have the forts commissioned.

Nearly all the forts where in occupation from up until the end of the Second World War, some are still in military hands like Fort Southwick in Portsmouth and the Dymchurch Redoubt. Alot are just decaying whilst in private ownership.

But not one fired a shot in anger...

The closest any ever saw was as use as anti-aircraft batteries, and the Needles Battery did fire a warning shot at a passing ship that failed to signal a reply to their call for identification...  seemed the captain didn`t understand English..!!!

However, i always feel the "folly" tag is a little unfair, as they did really do the job they were built for, and that was as a deterrent, the means to stop invasion from France...

Yes I agree it is, doesn't seem to fit such a magnificant building.
