As I'm not attending her funeral tomorrow, I felt I should at least do something... and then these thoughts hit me and this is what came out. (I apologise, this is the first poem I have ever attempted in my life...)

Unanswered Questions
The walls I had spent so long to build,
To keep out all the hurt and pain,
Were slowly crumbling down.
As I stood alone in the kitchen,
I felt the claws of humanity tear down my defenses and expose me,
Showing my true feeling behind the humour.
And then I cried.
I cried for the past memories and for the future ones which would never be,
I cried then for my cowardice.
I begged and pleaded with the empty air for you to understand,
To understand why I wasn't there with you,
Why I couldn't and wouldn't be there with you.
I wanted something, anything, a sign to show you could hear me,
Even though I knew deep down I would never get one,
I just wanted you to know how much I loved you and miss you.
And then the tears fell again,
This time not with pain and anguish,
But with the understanding that there would be so many unanswered questions.

It's just something I've needed to do for a while now.
