Some time ago some of us went to Canvey Point investagating the world war two aircrash that happened there in 1944. When i was down there was awere of a seaman so have been looking up shipwrecks off canvey, i have pasted them under chat on forum.
I have seen his ghost of a seaman three times now, he wears a black coat and hat, not sure weather he is english as he has not spoke to me, i would say he passed in early 1900's but do not know what vessel he was from.
Once the weather warms a bit i will go down there again and try sound recording and film to see that i can get. He could come from one of many barges and ships that sank down the.
There have been many shipwrecks off Southend to and Canvey Point does go only a mile from Southend peir when tide is out.

Anyone ever goes down the, the tide comes in from around the back of you, if you stay on high sandbank or old seawall you are safe, after about a hour when the tide starts going out, you can get back to shore again.
Keep to the footpath or sandbars and you are safe at all times.
Be very carefull of the mud as in places it is soft and can go under it.
It is well worth a visit down there, if going at night do keep to footpath at all times, well worth filming at night and active most nights and during the daytime as well, it's the first and last sandbars you get most from.
There is many ghosts from roman times up to world war two. _________________ The sprit world is all around us. |

Many of times in the past and so much has happened down there in the past from Roman times, through Saxon times when there built the wicks on Canvey for sheep and cheese making in the days when Canvey was five islands, through the Dutch times and the building of Canvey's first seawall (built 1618), through both world wars up to 1953 when land was lost at the point to the sea. _________________ The sprit world is all around us. |
